How a pet prescription refill works at OmniPetRx
A refill is not a new prescription. It is another fill of one your veterinarian has already written, so the process is shorter than the first time round — but it still runs through the same checks, because a compounded preparation is made to order rather than pulled off a shelf.
- You submit the form above. The Rx number is what ties the request to the prescription already on file. It is on your previous medication label, or in the last confirmation we sent you by email or text.
- We verify it. We check the Rx number against the prescription on file and confirm your shipping details. If anything does not match, we contact you rather than guess.
- We compound it. To the same strength, form and flavour the original prescription specifies.
- It ships to you. You get a tracking number by text or email as soon as it leaves us.
Refills are processed during business hours, and most ship within two business days. If it is urgent, use the Live Pharmacist link at the top of this page rather than waiting on the form. If your pet is unwell or you think this is a medical emergency, contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital first — a pharmacy cannot assess or treat your animal.
When a refill needs new authorisation from your veterinarian
Some refills cannot proceed until the prescribing veterinarian authorises them again. That is a feature of how veterinary prescriptions work — a prescription can be written with a set number of refills, or with an expiry — rather than a hurdle we have added. When it applies, we contact your clinic and tell you that is what we are waiting on.
Refills stay connected to the veterinary plan for a reason: your veterinarian is the one deciding that your pet should continue on a medication, and the pharmacy does not make that call. If something has changed with your pet, that conversation belongs with your vet before the refill, not after it.

Will a pharmacy fill a prescription for a pet?
A veterinary compounding pharmacy will, against a valid prescription written by a licensed veterinarian. OmniPetRx compounds preparations to the strength, form, and flavour the prescription specifies. We do not interpret, substitute, or guess at a prescription, and we cannot decide what your animal should take — that is your veterinarian's decision.
Why does my refill need new authorisation from my veterinarian?
Some veterinary prescriptions are written with a limited number of refills, or expire, so the authorisation has to be renewed before the pharmacy can dispense again. That is a feature of how veterinary prescriptions work rather than a hurdle we have added. If your refill needs it, we contact your clinic and let you know.
